- What is EDN?
-
EDN is the ESRI Developer Network. EDN's deliverables primarily consist of a library of development software for building and testing applications that includes: ArcGIS Server, ArcIMS,
ArcSDE, ArcWeb Services, and ArcGIS Engine Developer Kit.
- What's included in the EDN subscription?
-
The Login link in the upper-right banner area, allows you to log in
and take advantage of more options. After you log in, the Login link changes to Logout. You must have an ESRI Global Account to login. If you don't, you
can create one on the EDN Login page.
The EDN Web site provides many support resources for developers including API documentation, technical articles, monitored user-to-user discussion
forums, and sample code exchange. In cases where additional support is needed, EDN subscribers can purchase a block of 10 developer support incidents/calls
for a fee.
- Why did we create EDN?
-
EDN was created at the request of our developer customers. They wanted a program that would give them inexpensive access to our developer products and
an easy way to manage and budget for development software costs. Many of these developers find themselves in the position of needing to try out software
platforms before recommending them for production use and need build prototype systems in order to get contracts
There is tremendous value for a development staff to have the opportunity to investigate a complete technology suite and choose to use the items that
will allow them to architect, build, and ultimately deliver an optimal solution.
- Who should subscribe to EDN?
-
- COTS/GOTS developers
- Vertical industry software developers
- Internal development groups within commercial or technical organizations
- Systems integrators
- Existing ESRI developer customers who do not have access to all ArcGIS development products
-
- What can you do with EDN?
-
EDN provides a comprehensive library of developer products, documentation, and a collaborative online environment that will help developers build
GIS and mapping applications with best-of-breed technology. Having access to all ArcGIS development tools will allow developers to build scalable,
extensible applications that fulfill their users' needs now and into the future. As long as the software licenses are used purely in a development
and test mode, developers can build everything from simple mapping applications to intricate geoprocessing and editing applications.
The online resources allow all developers, including ESRI's, to collaborate and share ideas, code, methodologies, and so forth, resulting in a
stronger GIS developer community.
- How is EDN licensed?
-
EDN is licensed annually per developer, and for development and testing use only. If a company has seven developers using ESRI technology to build
products or internal applications, the company needs to buy seven subscriptions. Authorization files will be issued that will provide access to
the software for a year. When the subscription is up for renewal, new authorization files will be issued when the subscriptions are renewed.
- Is the 10-call DSG package shareable across an organization?
-
No. The 10-call DSG is for one authorized caller.
- Can EDN subscribers purchase DSG after the initial EDN purchase?
-
Yes, someone can purchase the EDN Developer Support (DSG) after the initial purchase of the subscription. $2,000 gets them 10 calls for one authorized
caller with a current EDN subscription. There is no time limit for the use of these 10 DSG incidents. If the EDN subscription lapses or is not renewed,
any unused DSG support incidents will likewise expire. If the subscriber exhausts their block of 10 and would like more, they can purchase another block
of 10. The price of this DSG support plan will not be prorated and the timing of the billing of support will not be linked up to their EDN subscription
annual renewal. The EDN subscriber should decide to renew their support as they use it and as they need it.
- Can an EDN subscriber purchase more than one training option?
-
The subscriber can purchase more than one training option. So, if the customer would like to take some beginning courses, they can use their first
training option of five days. If they would like to take advanced training after that, they can use their second training option of five days. But both
training options must be purchased at the same time as the subscription or renewal, if they want the discounted price. It is important to note that there
is no rollover. Training must be booked within the subscription time frame and training must be completed within 30 days of the end of the subscription.
Anything beyond the 30 days would have to be handled on a case-by-case basis.
